Year 1 & 2 Newsflash 🔈 We have had another busy week of learning in Miss Pearson’s class! In Maths, the children completed their weighing investigations by comparing the weight of items around our school. Next, we started to look at multiplication. In Year 1 the children were fantastic at finding and recalling doubles to 20 (and even beyond)! In Year 2, the children made equal groups of 2s, 5s and 10s and recorded “groups of” as repeated addition. Some of our super Mathematicians in Year 2 even began to use the multiplication symbol to represent “groups of”!As Scientists, we explored our sense of taste in an investigation. The children tasted different sweets that felt the same but were challenged not to use their sense of sight or smell. They made predictions about the flavour and explained why using descriptions. We were very surprised that using just one sense is difficult and concluded that using more than one sense helps us to make better predictions. In Art, the children created some Seaside collages. They recapped their Geographical learning and identified features of our local area. We watched a tourist information video about Berwick and made sketches of the things we liked. The children used these sketches to create drawings for their collages before selecting appropriate materials to create a collage with different textures. Well done everyone! We were very kindly loaned an “Ecology Box” from the Union Chain Bridge that contained some amazing resources to support our Science topic this half term. The children explored the bugs up close, made their own life cycles and shared stories with some exciting local settings! Thank you very much to the group for this wonderful opportunity! Miss Pearson and Miss Simpson have been blown away by the children this half term and how well they have settled in - not to mention the wonderful work they have been producing! We are so proud of everyone and hope you all have a lovely half term holiday! ... See MoreSee Less

Children are at the heart of all we do at St Mary's. They provide the inspiration for the whole school community to continually innovate and improve, so enabling us to provide the best possible learning experiences to everyone of our pupils.

A firm foundation for a 'Lifetime of Learning’ combines the best of Christian Values with the very latest in teaching methods, allowing us to deliver our vision of enabling all children whatever their need to fulfil their potential. This is achieved by our children enjoying rich and engaging learning experiences, that promote ownership of learning and lead to ever increasingly high standards of achievement in all areas of learning, both in the class and in play.

It is our shared Christian Faith and Values that helps us to create our school ethos, allowing us to deliver a fully inclusive approach to learning for all those who wish to join our very special community.

Our faith and vision is summed up in three words:

  • Achievement
  • Creativity
  • Endeavour

Each represents a core area of our approach in school and is based on key principles  of Christian teaching.

The message of  Philippians 4:13 “I can do all this through him who gives me strength”, guides us in our pursuit of achievement in school.

The message of Colossians 3:23,  ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart.’ guides us in our creativity within school.

The message of  Luke 21:19, ‘Stand firm and you will win life.’ guides us in our endeavours in school.
