Year 4 Newsflash! This week as Mathematicians, we have recapped our knowledge of column subtraction with exchanging and have applied this to solve some real life problems. To demonstrate our understanding clearly we solved a two-step problem involving designing our own theme park! The children added the cost of attractions (including pizza vans and rollercoasters) then subtracted from a budget. In Computing, we changed the colours and size of writing to appeal to an audience and create an advert for our theme parks. We also added pictures and started to create a “theme” to communicate to guests. As Geographers, we found that there are different climate zones around the world and understood these in relation to how close to the equator they were. We identified the location of the equator, Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn on a globe and used a torch as a “sun” to explore and demonstrate how location can affect temperature. Next, the children marked the climate zones on a map and made predictions about the plants and animals that could survive in each, justifying their reasons. In Rugby this week the children worked as a team to move the ball from one side of the field to the other. They had to coordinate their moves and think tactically about how they could travel the quickest while accurately passing the ball.
