The Tweed - Vision & Ethos

Our Mission Statement

Our mission statement reflects our vision for the whole school community, ‘To realise the potential within every child, by providing the encouragement and challenge to inspire a love of life-long learning, within a caring community with Christian values and beliefs at its heart.’

We use the teachings of Jesus to guide us in this goal, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13.

Our Core Values

The Tweed Learning Federation expects the highest standards of behaviour possible within each child’s capability, maturity and the context in which they are operating. We will help children achieve this by providing clear and consistent boundaries and guidelines for them, demonstrated through the daily actions of adults and peers. The school also recognizes the vital role parents/carers play in developing a child’s behaviour, therefore it is an expectation of the school that parents work in partnership with staff both to intervene when appropriate, but more importantly to help role model positive behaviour in their normal daily actions.

The aim of the Tweed Learning Federation is for every member of the school community to feel valued and respected, and for all persons to be treated fairly. We are a caring community, whose values are built on mutual trust and respect.

Staff at the Tweed Learning Federation have completed the Safety Intervention Training programme. This is a whole school embedded approach which lays the foundations for staff to structure consistent, calm approaches and interventions to effectively deescalate and manage behaviour incidents. It provides a common framework for decision making and problem solving to ensure the care, welfare, safety and security for all. Please see our Behaviour Policy for more information. You can access our policy at the school office or on our website.

Our Core Values of endurance, compassion, friendship, service and justice which are central to all that we do and we aim to provide:

    • Care - including respect to all, dignity, empathy and a person-centred approach

    • Welfare - maintaining independence, choice and well-being

    • Safety - protecting the rights of all and minimising harm

    • Security - safe, effective, harmonious and collaborative relationships

We use a person-centred approach and recognise that the individual knows themselves best, so we respect the person’s preferences and what is important to them and use an approach based on their strengths. This might be collaborative target setting or using an interest to support with engaging with the curriculum. We also consider each individuals’ life experiences while understanding that every person is also unique.
